英语单词asset原本是个法律术语,表示“足以清偿债务的财产”。该单词来自拉丁文ad satis,其中,ad=to,astis=enough,如satisfy(满足),所以该单词的字面意思就是“足够的”。从该单词衍生出古法语单词assez,后有衍生出法语单词asetz,进而衍生出英语单词assets。由于词尾带有-s,往往被人误认为是复数形式,所以在19世纪逆生出asset这一拼写形式,而assets则被看作asset的复数形式。
