词源词缀法:
abound形容词形式。ab-加强意义+-und-溢出+-ant形容词词尾=lavish(丰富的),abundant(丰富的),affluent(富足的)。
三个词都有“丰富”之义,细比较之,三者的词根分别是lav“冲洗”,und“流动”和flu“流动”,也都有水的运动之义。汉语有“花钱如流水”,形容钱之多,与之异曲同工。lav是“冲洗”,比“流动”激烈,所以是“过分丰富的”。
